Immerse yourself in one of our rentals on 45 acres of peaceful land

  • "This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites one family. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself. The earth is sacred and men and animals are but one part of it. Treat the earth with respect so that it lasts for centuries to come and is a place of wonder and beauty for our children." - Chief Seattle, Squamish and Duwamish chief

    Horticultural Therapy Programs

Nature has always been intertwined with the healing, learning and growing aspect of human lives. As we care for the land, we can learn to care for ourselves. Horticultural Therapy, also know as HT, utilizes the natural world with guided therapeutic practices to promote an environment for engagement and healing. The immersion in nature is proven to ease anxiety, lower stress, and calm the mind and body. HT aids participants to form new skills and spark lost skills. HT offers a variety of benefits including socialization, connection, memory improvement, coordination, balance and endurance. This form of therapy is for all age ranges and abilities as it allows our mind to connect and be one with nature.

Cheryl Cohan, BA, MMFT, RMFT, is currently practicing Marriage and Family Therapy and Horticultural Therapy. She has spent more than 20 years developing, educating, and practicing evidence and research-based programs to those of all ages, abilities, and circumstances.

Here at Matlock Retreat we provide nature based programs. These programs include nature bouquets, planting, painted sticks, mandalas, land art, wild explore, teas and creams and much more! Relax and enjoy nature through a different lens.

    Explore our Land

Take a trip on our land for the day! Within our 45 acres experience the various forest paths, Labyrinth, ponds, and wildlife. Fully immerse yourself into the sights, smells, sounds and energy of nature. Have a picnic, watch the sunset, appreciate the land, and cultivate awareness.

A featured spot on our retreat is the Labyrinth! Experience the three stages: Releasing, Receiving, and Returning. As we enter the Labyrinth, we release our thoughts and actions of our daily life, calm our mind, and open our hearts. As we reach the center, we receive peace, calm, stillness, and blessings. As we return, we let go of our past and allow the healing forces to enter and guide us into the world.

Matlock Biodiversity Retreat and Horticultural Therapy Centre offers space for private, therapeutic and recreational programs for all types of people.
